Dr. de Petris obtained the PhD in Legal Studies (curriculum of Roman Law and Ancient Legal History) summa cum laude and, also, the Máster Oficial en Derecho de los Negocios from the Escuela internacional de Posgrado – University of Granada. He then won a research grant at the University of Macerata, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Pierangelo Buongiorno, where he worked on the analysis of the Corpus agrimensorum romanorum. Dr. de Petris also obtained the Italian Qualification to the position of Associate Professor (ASN-Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) for the subject Roman Law and Ancient Legal History. His work focuses on property rights, the history of Roman jurisprudence, the history of land surveying in Antiquity, and the interaction between local law and Roman law. In the latter area, he is conducting extensive research on the tenth book of Pliny the Younger’s epistulae, with the aim of producing a historical-legal commentary. 

Dr. de Petris was a member of the research project ‘Scriptores iuris romani’ (ERC Advanced Grant 2014, P.I. Prof. Aldo Schiavone), and is currently a member of the project ‘PicMarc. Dal Picenum alla Marca. Contributo alla storia del paesaggio delle Marche centro-meridionali alla luce delle fonti giuridiche e gromatiche antiche e della documentazione epigrafica’ (P.I. Prof. Dr. Pierangelo Buongiorno). Dr. de Petris was Visiting Researcher at the Departamento de Derecho Mercantil y Derecho Romano-Facultad de Derecho and at the Real Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé y Santiago – Universidad de Granada, Spain, as well as Gastwissenschaftler at the Institut für Römisches Recht und Vergleichende Rechtsgesichte (Prof. Dr. Martin Schermaier) – Universität Bonn.
