Since I began my studies in the Departments of Talmud and Classical Studies at the Hebrew University, I have been intrigued by the connections between these two worlds. In my master’s dissertation, I explored marriage contracts from the Judean Desert and addressed a question that has garnered significant scholarly attention: what tradition is reflected in these documents? Rabbinic, Hellenistic, Roman, or a combination of traditions? In my doctoral dissertation, under the supervision of Prof. Uri Yiftach and Prof. Yair Furstenberg, I pursued a similar inquiry, examining the shaping of inheritance laws in Tannaitic Halakha within the context of the Roman imperial milieu in which the Mishnah sages operated. In my current project, I focus on characterizing the influence of the Roman environment on various institutions related to inheritance, such as the development of the 'deathbed gift' and the different models of succession order.
